Winter solstice 2025

 Today is winter solstice but unfortunately I still need to go to work. I need to send my recycle cans and bottles to the recycle center to earn some extra money. Sort of Ah Pek gunny just like my late cousin Ah Lo Pek used to do.

Here in Perth, recycling cola cans and bottles is a government scheme. You are paid ten cent for every can and bottle you collect. This help to clean up the environment.

At the center, I am surprised sometimes I see people driving branded cars like Toyota Lexus, Jeep, Range Rover, Honda sport vehicles also bringing these cola cans and bottles just to claim for the few dollars refund. I guess even the rich need money or is it to support the government scheme.

At the center, I meet one  Foo Chow lady who is  from Sendin, Miri. When she learns that I am also from Miri, she is so happy. I guess the feeling is mutual when you are far away from home. She said she will be going back for Chinese New Year next month.

今天是冬至，但很遺憾我還是得去上班。我得把回收的易拉罐和瓶子送到回收中心去賺點外快。有點像我已故的表哥阿羅伯以前做的那種「阿伯工作」。

在珀斯，可樂罐和瓶子的回收是一項政府計劃。每回收一個罐子或瓶子，您就能獲得10澳分的報酬。這有助於保護環境。

在回收中心，我有時會驚訝地看到有人開著豐田、雷克薩斯、吉普、路虎攬勝、本田跑車等名牌車，也帶著可樂罐和瓶子來領取那幾美元的退稅。我猜想，即使是富人也需要錢，或者他們是為了支持政府的這項計畫。

在中心，我遇到了一位來自美里仙丁的福州女孩。當她得知我也是美里人時，她非常高興。我想，身處異鄉，這種感覺是相互的。她說她下個月要回家過春節。
